Chapter on what Came Regarding the Two-Faced Person

The statement of Allh Tal in the yah,

When they meet those who believe, they say: We believe;1 (al-Baqarah 2/14)

And He Tals statement in the yah,

(They are) distracted in mind even in the midst of it.2 (an-Nis 4/143)

It is narrated from both of them (al-Bukhr and Muslim) from Ab Hurayrah (Radiyallhu Anh) in a Marf Hadth,

You will find that the worst of people (in the sight of Allh) are the two-faced people who come to these people with one those with another face. (al-Bukhr, 6058; Muslim, 2526)

It is narrated from Anas (Radiyallhu Anh) in a Marf Hadth,

He who is two-faced (in this world), Allh will make him two tongues of fire on Yawmul Qiymah (the Day of Resurrection). (narrated from another Sahbah named Ammr bin Ysir in Ab Dwd, 4873)

Footnotes:

1- The yah in full reads,

When they meet those who believe, they say: We believe; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: We are really with you: We (were) only jesting. (al-Baqarah 2/14)

2- The yah in full reads,

(They are) distracted in mind even in the midst of it,- being (sincerely) for neither one group nor for another whom Allh leaves straying,- never wilt thou find for him the way. (an-Nis 4/143)
Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah (Rahimahullh) stated,

"The lim (scholar) recognizes the Jhil (ignorant) since he was once a Jhil. The Jhil does not recognize the lim since he has never been an lim." (Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majm'ul Fatw, 13/235)

Chapter on what Came Regarding Calumny

The statement of Allh Tal,

A slanderer, going about with calumnies. (al-Qalam 68/11)

It is narrated from Hudhayfah (Radiyallhu Anh) in a Marf Hadth,

The calumniator (tale-bearer) will not enter Jannah (Paradise). (Muslim Hadth no. 105)

It is narrated from both of them (al-Bukhr and Muslim) in the Hadth of al-Qabrayn (the two-graves),

Verily, they are not being punished for a great thing (in the peoples sight): indeed it (their sins) are great (in the sight of Allh). As for one of them, he did not free himself from (being soiled) with urine. As for the other, he would go about with calumnies (to make enmity between friends). (al-Bukhr, Hadth no. 218, 1361; Muslim, Hadth no. 292)

It is narrated from Muslim from Ibnu Masd (Radiyallhu Anh) in a Marf Hadth,

Should I inform you what slandering is? It is calumny: tale-carrying between people. (Muslim, Hadth no. 2606)

Chapter on what Came Regarding Slandering

The statement of Allh Tal in the yah,

And those who annoy believing men and women...1 (al-Ahzb 33/58)

It is narrated from Ibnu Umar (Radiyallhu Anhum) in a Marf Hadth,

Whoever makes an untruthful accusation against a Mumin (believer), Allh will abide him in Radghatul Khabl until he retracts his statement. [It was said, O Raslullh! What is Radghatul Khabl? He said, The drippings of Ahlun Nr (the people of the fire, i.e. Jahannam).2]3 Ab Dwd narrated it with its Sanad (chain of narration).

It is narrated from Muslim from Ab Hurayrah (Radiyallhu Tal Anh) in a Marf Hadth,

Do you know what is backbiting? They (the Sahbah) said: Allh and His Rasl know best. He (Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam) said, Mentioning your brother by that which he does not like. It was said, Even if what I say is (actually) in my brother? He said, If what you say is (actually) found in him, then you have backbitten him, and if what you say is not found in him, then you have slandered him. (Muslim, Hadth no: 2589)

And those who annoy believing men and women undeservedly, bear (on themselves) a calumny and a glaring sin (al-Ahzb 33/58)

2- Al-Awz (Rahimahullh) stated that Radghatul Khabl is The pus of Ahlun Nr. (at-Tabarn, Mujamul Kabr, Hadth no: 14550)

3- The first part of the Hadth is narrated in Ab Dwd, Hadth no: 3597. We were not able to find the Hadth as narrated by the Muallif. However, the portion in parantheses is narrated in a seperate Hadth in Ibnu Mjah, Hadth no: 3377. In another Nushah (copy) of the book the portion in parantheses is not found. Wallhu Alam.

Chapter on what Came Regarding Cursing

It is narrated from Abd Dard Radiyallhu Tal Anh in a Marf Hadth,

When a servant curses anything, the curse goes up to the Sam (heaven), thus the gates of the Sam (heaven) are locked against it. Then it comes down to the Ardh (earth), so the gates of the Ardh are locked against it. Then it goes right and left: when it finds no place of entrance it returns to the thing which was cursed, and if it deserves what was said (it enters it), otherwise it returns to the one who uttered it. (Ab Dwd, Hadth no. 4905)

Ab Dwd narrated it with a Jayyid (good) Sanad (chain of narration). It also has a witness with Ahmad in a Hasan (good) Sanad from the Hadth of Ibnu Masd. Ab Dwd and other than him also recorded it from the Hadth of Ibnu Masd: its narration is Thiqt (reliable); however, it is defected by transmission.

It is narrated from Muslim from Ab Barzah Radiyallhu Anh in a Marf Hadth that a women cursed her she-camel. So Raslullh Sallallhu Alayhi wa Sallam said,

The she-camel that has been cursed should not accompany us. (Muslim, Hadh no. 48, with slightly different wording, 47, 2595, 3006-3014)

It is also narrated from him (Muslim) from Imrn and others.

Whosoever hears something from a man which he would not like to be mentioned: then it is a trust upon him (the listener), even if he was not asked to keep it a secret. (Musnad Ahmad, Hadth no. 27509)

Chapter on the Prohibition on Interceeding in the Hudd (pl. of Hadd; Punishment Prescribed by the Sharah)

And the statement of Allhu Tal in the yah,

Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allh (an-Nr 24/2)

It is narrated from both of them (al-Bukhr and Muslim) in the Hadth of Khuzaymah,

Do you intercede in a Hadd (prescribed punishment) from amongst the Hudd of Allh? (al-Bukhr, Hadth no: 3475; Muslim, Hadth no: 1688)

And it is narrated in the Muwatta (of Imm Mlik) from az-Zubayr (Radiyallhu Anh):

When the case reaches the ruler (and he inflects a prescribed punishment based on the apparent evidence), Allh will curse the intercessor and the one for whom he intercedes. (al-Muwatta, version of Abdul Bq, 2/835; version of al-Adham, 5/1221; version of Ab Musab az-Zuhr, 2/43)

It is also narrated from Ibnu Umar (Radiyallhu Anh) in a Marf Hadth,

Whoevers intercession becomes as an obstacle to one of the punishments prescribed by Allh being enacted, then he has opposed Allh in His command. (Ab Dwd, Hadth no: 3597)
Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah (Rahimahullh) stated,

"The lim (scholar) recognizes the Jhil (ignorant) since he was once a Jhil. The Jhil does not recognize the lim since he has never been an lim." (Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majm'ul Fatw, 13/235)

Chapter on the One who Assists in a Dispute Unjustly

The statement of Allhu Tal in the yah,

Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancor (al-Midah 5/2)

Also His statement in the yah,

Whoever interceded in a good cause becomes a partner therein: And whoever recommends and helps an evil cause, shares in its burden (an-Nis 4/86)

It is narrated from Ibnu Umar Radiyallhu Anhum in a Marf Hadth,

If anyones intercession intervenes as an obstacle to one of the punishments from the punishments prescribed by Allh, he has opposed Allh in His command. Whoever disputes unjustly knowing that it is false, he remains in the displeasure of Allh until he abstains from it. And whoever says something regarding a Muslim which is not found in him, he will be imprisoned in Radghatul Khabl until he retracts his statement. It was said, O Raslullh! What is Radghatul Khabl? He said, The drippings of Ahlun Nr (the people of the fire, i.e. Jahannam). (Ab Dwd with slight differences in wording, Hadth no: 3597)

And in another narration,

And whoever assists in a dispute unjustly, he has drawn the wrath of Allh upon himself. (Ab Dwd with slight differences in wording, Hadth no: 3597-3598)

Ab Dwd narrated it with a Sahh (sound) Sanad (chain of narration).
