  • فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِِ
The Last Khutbah Given by Shaykhul Islm Muhammad bin Abdil Wahhb (Rahimahullh) During Iydun Nahr (Festival of Slaughter)1

All praise due to Allh, Sayyid (Master) of the gathering and celebrations, the One Who raised the Samwt (skies) without any pillars that you can see and He is the Increaser (of the provisions) of the Ardh (earth) and anchoring it with mountains. I praise Him Subhnahu upon His bounties, which are not possible to count in numbers. I thank Allh by thanking Him for the pleasant bounties and increase.

I bear witness that there is no -true- god -worthy of worship- except Allh, He is One, Who has no partner a testimony which I prepare for the Day of Gathering.

I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Rasl (messenger): the guide to Sablur Rashd (the Path of Right Conduct)2, the D (the caller) to Allh upon Basrah (foreseeing) until the slaves accept his Dawah (call). O Allh, send salutations upon Muhammad, and upon all of his respected honourable l (family) and Ashb (companions), and send abundant Salm (peace) upon them.

Amm Bad (To proceed):

O Ibdullh (slaves of Allh)! Fear Allh Tal and know that the one who is happy is not the one who perceives Iyd, wears new clothing, rides upon a branded beautiful horse, and his duties (are fulfilled by) the servants. Verily the one who is happy is the one who fears Allh in what he begins and repeats, he who has won Jannah (Paradise) with its bounties: that neither exhaust nor perish, and he who has been saved from the extreme hotness of the Nr (Hell-fire), its far bottom, the food az-Zaqqm3 for its people and their repulsive drink, and their clothing of tar and iron.

Fear Allh o Ibdullh by obeying His certain commands and perform the Salh and pay the Zakh confer with the Marf (good) and forbid from the Munkar (evil) for this is the affair of the slave.

Know that Allh Tal commanded you with a command which He commenced with Himself, thus He Tal said,

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Allh and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! Send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect. (al-Ahzb 33/56)

O Allh, send blessings upon Your Slave and Your Rasl Muhammad the perfect Hshim (from the tribe of Ban Hshim) Nab. O Allh be pleased with the Four Khulaf (pl. of Khalfah; Caliphs) upon the Hunaf (pl. of Hanf; one who does not ascribe partners to Allh) masters Ab Bakr, Umar, Uthmn, Al, and upon the rest of the Sahbah the Ahlus Sidq wal Wafa (the People of Truthfulness and Fulfillment). And upon the Tabin and those who follow them and those who follow the tracks of their path with Ihsn (perfection) until Yawmud Dn (the Day of Judgement), and upon us with them, with Your forgiveness, generosity, and Your kindness. O the One Who is the Best of those who overlook and forgive.

O Allh! Honour al-Islm and the Muslimn (pl. Muslim); disgrace Shirk and the Mushrikn (pl. Mushrik), warm up the place of the Dn, and make this country and the rest of the countries of the Muslimn pleasing!

O Allh! Establish the banner of Jihd, supress the way of Ahlush Shirk, Rayb (doubts), and Fasd (corruption), and open up Your Mercy upon these Ibd (pl. Abd; slaves). O the One who the Duny (worldly life) and khirah (Hereafter) belongs to and to the return will be!

Ibdullh, verily Allh enjoins Adl (justice), Ihsn (goodness), and giving to those who are your kinsfolk and He prohibits the Fahsh (indecent deeds), Munkar (evil), and Baghy (rebellion), He admonishes you so that you may take heed. Fulfil the Ahd (covenant) of Allh when you have covenanted, and do not break the oaths after you have confirmed them and indeed, you have appointed Allh your Kafl (surety). Verily, Allh knows what you do.4

Thus, remember Allh; al-Adhm al-Jall so that He may remember you and thank Him for His Nimah (bounties) so that He may increase you. Surely, the remembrance of Allh is the greatest, and Allh knows what you do.

وَقَالَ الَّذِي آمَنَ يَا قَوْمِ اتَّبِعُونِ أَهْدِكُمْ سَبِيلَ الرَّشَادِ
The man who believed said further: O my people! Follow me: I will lead you to Sablur Rashd (the Path of Right Conduct). (Mumin/Ghfir 40/38)

3- Allh Tal states the following regarding the Tree of Zaqqm,

أَذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلاً أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّالِمِينَ إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُؤُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِؤُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ
Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqm? For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. (as-Sfft 37/62-66);

إِنَّ شَجَرَةَ الزَّقُّومِطَعَامُ الْأَثِيمِ كَالْمُهْلِ يَغْلِي فِي الْبُطُونِ كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ
Verily the tree of Zaqqm. Will be the food of the Sinful. Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides. Like the boiling of scalding water. (ad-Dukhn 44/43-46);

إلَآكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ فَمَالِؤُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ
Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqm. Then will ye fill your insides therewith... (al-Wqiah 56/52-53)

4- Shaykh (Rahimahullh) refers to the following yat (pl. of yah),

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ وَأَوْفُوا بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ إِذَا عَاهَدْتُمْ وَلَا تَنْقُضُوا الْأَيْمَانَ بَعْدَ تَوْكِيدِهَا وَقَدْ جَعَلْتُمُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْكُمْ كَفِيلًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ
Allh commands justice, the doing of good, and given to kith and kin, and He forbids all indecent deeds, and evil and rebellion: He instructs you, that ye may receive admonition. Fulfill the Covenant of Allh when ye have entered into it, and break not your oaths after ye have confirmed them; indeed ye have made Allh your surety; for Allh knoweth all that ye do.  (an-Nahl 16/90-91)
Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah (Rahimahullh) stated,

والعالم يعرف الجاهل؛ لأنه كان جاهلا، والجاهل لا يعرف العالم لأنه لم يكن عالما

"The lim (scholar) recognizes the Jhil (ignorant) since he was once a Jhil. The Jhil does not recognize the lim since he has never been an lim." (Shaykh'ul Islm Ibnu Taymiyyah, Majm'ul Fatw, 13/235)
